ATLANTA — Following the Dec. 2 Atlanta/Savannah Harbor Business Forum’s success, the Atlanta City Channel 26 has begun airing a video documenting the event. This video airs daily.
“The Savannah Harbor Expansion Project (SHEP) is about what Georgia is going to be in ten years,” Mayor Kasim Reed said. “Georgia has to have a second act. If the Olympics in 1996 was the first act, from an economic development standpoint, I believe that the deepening of the Savannah port really is a part of our second act.”
Moderated by Richard Warner, business correspondent at WAGA and CEO of What’s up Interactive, the panel discussed the importance of the SHEP and its economic importance to the city of Atlanta.
“Our ports touch every single county, every single district and every single region throughout the state,” GPA Executive Director Curtis J. Foltz said. “The Savannah port is Atlanta’s port. In FY2010 alone, Georgia’s ports moved cargo valued at more than $8 billion to and from the metro Atlanta region.”
The video features the highlighted speakers: Reed; Foltz; Frank Blake, CEO of The Home Depot; Chris Clark, president and CEO of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce; Eric Joiner, vice chairman of AJC International; Jeff Humphreys, director of economic forecasting at Terry Business College; Tad Leithead, chairman of Atlanta Regional Commission; Catherine L. Ross, Ph.D., director of Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development; Sam A. Williams, president of Metro Atlanta Chamber; and Alec Poitevint, chairman of the Georgia Ports Authority Board.
The footage also can be viewed on demand at www.gaports.com/deepening. The presentation runs 55 minutes. Scheduled airing times will be reprogrammed Tuesdays. To find new airing times, go to http://www.atlantaga.gov/citychannel26/playlog_050410.aspx.
