Authorities say a former Savannah State University football player has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in an attack that left a fellow student with a compressed skull.

The former athlete, 20-year-old Edward Ndem from College Park, Ga., was charged with aggravated assault with a metal police flashlight in connection with the attack on Carl Gee. Gee's injuries required his skull to be remodeled.

Four other former Savannah State football players received probation in connection with the attack.

Witnesses have testified that Gee and another student were sitting in a circle on campus when they were attacked. Testimony showed that Gee was struck when he got up, and the other student was chased down and stomped.
