PawParazzi pet boutique of Richmond Hill raised close to $900 for the National Canine Cancer Foundation during its Pet Pictures with Santa event.
“We had an 84 percent increase in donations this year from last year,” explained Sherri Broome, owner of PawParazzi. “It’s so heart-warming to know that even in an economic slow-down, people care that their money goes to worthy causes.”
Through a $20 donation, participants in the event received a non-copywritten picture of their pet with Santa and a card. Every cent raised during the event was donated to the foundation.
The National Canine Cancer Foundation is one that is close to Broome’s heart, as Minnie, one of Broome’s beloved miniature bull terriers succumbed to cancer just over a year ago.
“It was tragic and heart-wrenching, but I knew I wanted to be able to give back in a way that would preserve her memory, so this event continues to be a personally important,” she said.
The National Canine Cancer Foundation is a nationwide, contribution funded, nonprofit corporation whose mission is to eliminate cancer as a major health problem in dogs by funding grants for the scientific efforts of cancer research.
